An Accidental Husband - an accidental pleasure
The 2008 romcom 'An Accidental Husband', starring Uma Thurman, Jeffery Dean Morgan and Colin Firth, has enjoyed surprising longevity. While not the best film of its kind ever made, 'An Accidental Husband' has a certain charm that appears to have made it an accidental pleasure.
What's the plot?
Emma (Uma Thurman) is a cynical radio agony aunt who advises one her callers to break off her engagement. The jilted fiancé, Patrick (Jeffery Dean Morgan) is furious and schemes to ruin Emma's own wedding plans to Richard (Colin Firth). Patrick enlists the help of a young friend of his to create a marriage record for Patrick and Emma, so Emma and Richard cannot get a marriage license. There is then much back and forth as Emma and Patrick try to sort out an annulment, with the pair growing closer. But who will Emma choose, Patrick or Richard?
Why should I watch it?
While it doesn't take a genius to work out who Emma ends up, there is plenty of fun to be had along the way. With a star turn from Isabella Rossellini as a pastry chef, and plenty of heartwarming scenes, 'An Accidental Husband' is good old fashioned love story with lots of laughs. All of the characters are pleasant people, so this is a film the whole family can watch without anyone getting offended. The film went straight to DVD in the US after financial difficulties, but this is the perfect format for it. Snuggle up in front of the TV with your nearest and dearest and a big bowl of popcorn and enjoy.
